How to Re-install or Replace a Rearview Mirror?
Now that you have everything ready and you are completely prepped let’s get into the steps on how you can do it.
Don’t worry, the steps simple and you will easily be able to do them. So let’s check it out.
So first up is removing the mounting button from the rearview mirror. So the mounting button is what holds the rearview mirror on the windshield.
You can easily remove it depending on the type of connection. You may be able to simply slide it off or you may need to screw it off from the mirror’s arm.
Next up is heating your windshield up. This is because when the windshield is cold it can cause condensation. When condensation happens the adhesive needed for the rearview mirror to stick will not activate.
This is because of the moisture will be present when the cold windshield causes condensation. This is why you need the hairdryer.
The hairdryer will allow you to heat up the windshield to the specific temperature you need in the designated area. The hairdryer is our suggestion because it provides a great deal of control.
So this step requires you to clean the windshield and remove the old adhesive. What you need to do is basically make the windshield squeaky clean. You should not have any residue of the old adhesive on the glass.
If the adhesive isn’t getting off easily then you can use the razor blade to remove the old adhesive residue. So after that, you need to take some glass cleaner or cleaning alcohol and clean the windshield and backside of the bracket that will stick to the windshield.
You should make sure that you do not touch the windshield because that can leave your skin’s oil on the glass which might hamper the reattachment process.
So this step is needed if you have an older car model. What you need to do for this is you need to stick a tape on the outside of the windshield where you want to attach the rearview mirror.
But for newer models, you will often see a black band on the outside showing you where you should put the rearview mirror.
Now you should be looking to put on the activator. You have to apply the activator on both sides.
Put the activator on the windshield and on the bracket itself. Then let the activator dry for a few minutes before moving on to the next step.
Next up is putting on the adhesive or glue. You should never put the glue on the windshield. What you need to do is apply the rearview mirror attaching glue on the bracket or button. T
hen push down the button on the windshield and hold the pressure for at least 60 minutes. One thing you should be noting down is that you should apply the glue on the right side of the bracket.
So now to the final step. You need to attach the mirror to the bracket. But you should wait at least 5-7 minutes before working on the bracket.
This will give the bracket time to adhere to the windshield. Once the waiting period is over you can simply attach the mirror as per the manufacturer’s instructions.
